
SUSAN KERN
Susan Kern is a playwright and artist who has worked with Henson Associates for MUPPET BABIES ON TOUR as well as "Poko Puppets" and "Company's Coming," all based in New York City. She has written and published musicals for Houston Publishing and Shawnee Press in collaboration with her husband,Philip, as well as having toured with Indianapolis Civic Theatre's KID CONNECTION and the Indianapolis Children's Museum's JELLYBEAN THEATRE. She is a member of ASCAP.
PHILIP KERN
Philip Kern is the Co-Chair of the Performing and Visual Arts Department and an Associate Professor of Music at Marian College, Indianapolis. At Marian, Phil is an instructor in music theory, conducting, history of musical theatre, and arranging. He also conducts the Marian College Women’s Chorus.
He received a B.A. in Music Education from Marian in 1979 and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Musical Theatre Program at New York University in 1986. While in New York, he played piano and synthesizers for CATS, GRAND HOTEL, SOME AMERICANS ABROAD and NUNSENSE. He also served as associate conductor for ANYTHING GOES at Lincoln Center starring Patti LuPone. On the road, Phil has played in the pits for CATS and PHANTOM OF OPERA. During the summers of 1992 and 1994, he was musical director for the HOT SUMMER NIGHTS series at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati.
Philip has been composing and arranging choral music since 1984, publishing through Alfred, Shawnee Press, Lorenz, Hinshaw, Coronet, and Hal Leonard. His works have been sung in schools and churches around the world. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild, ASCAP, the American Choral Directors Association, and the National Association for Music Education.
JERRY LOWE
Jerry Lowe, a graduate of Northwestern University, has spent his life in the theatre as producer, director, actor, playwright and teacher. Director of more than a hundred-twenty-five productions, he served for 10 years as Producing Artistic Director of one of the nation’s oldest and largest regional theatres, The Players Guild Theatre, Canton, Ohio. In 1998, he assumed the reins of Cincinnati Ohio's Downtown Theatre Classics as Producing Artistic Director where he directed the world premiere of Kern and Lowe’s "It’s a Wonderful Life". Mr. Lowe has taught at Cincinnati’s famed School for Creative and Performing Arts and served as Executive Producer of Miami University’s long-running summer theatre. An experienced adapter of narrative fiction for the stage, he recently completed his new play "Children of the Light" based on Jan de Hartog’s epic best selling novel The Peaceable Kingdom. An avid photographer, graphic artist and musician, Mr. Lowe and his wife JaNoel live in Florence, Kentucky, a suburb of Cincinnati.
